Multimedia Book V1.0

Abstract

Until this very moment, almost all books are comprised only of texts and images, and thus are not interactive enough to interest readers in studying. Let’s take the following as an example: if a student is given two options, one of which is to skim and to scan through pages of boring words just to find a small piece of information about something happened in history, and the other one is to watch an interesting film about the same event, which one will he/she be more likely to choose? According to a survey we have recently conducted, more than 80% of people prefer watching to reading. Similarly, a majority of students from FPT University said they would see a video clip that shows their professor giving a lecture rather than read books. That points out that it will be quite more exciting, and hence much easier for students to study if we embed multimedia in reading materials. Therefore, we plan to define a new format of e-book named as ‘multimedia book. That new type of e-book will consist of not only words but also animated pictures, video clips, audio recordings, and so forth. Readers will have the ability to navigate through our sources of interactive materials related to the textual content of each book Even more than that, we also plan to establish a web service which will allow users with a lot of online multiple-choice exercises. The result will also be sent to them immediately after they finish their exercises. We strongly believe that this new type of e-book will interactively stimulate not only students but also anyone who has once found themselves bored and depressed researching a particular subject.
