The purpose of this study was to explore the most challenging problems of reading comprehension faced by General-English students in TRS501 courses at HCMC FPT University, which were then based on to discover possible solutions. Data were collected via the form of questionnaires completed by 50 participants. The questionnaires gathered the perceptions of students about their difficulties in reading comprehension through five open-ended and closed-ended questions. Then, ten random participants took part in the semi-interviews to help the researchers verify students verified the findings from the questionnaires’ results; simultaneously, three teachers also indicated their opinions which were later on compared and contrasted to the students’. The finding showed that the three most common challenges on reading comprehension were vocabulary, grammar, and inability to locate the answers. From that finding, the researchers gave some specific and feasible solutions for each difficulty. The results of this study might be useful for both teachers and students in developing their learning and teaching method, as well as supporting the future study about this problem at FPT University.
