Abstract:
The rapid expansion of the global population, with advancements in modern technology bring many benefits, but it also leads to a significant problem: managing waste. As the amount of waste increases, it becomes a major environmental concern, placing additional strain on the waste management systems and infrastructure[1]. In some instances, trash bins placed may overflow, spreading around the areas, while others remain underutilized or even empty. Addressing these challenges, this thesis introduces an innovative waste management system for urban areas, employing advanced technology to enhance the efficiency of garbage management and disposal processes. Sensors are integrated in trash bins to track their fill levels, transmitting this data to a central computer for analysis. This information guides waste collection personnel, enhancing efficiency and planning. The sensors come in compact, easy-to-install handle boxes, designed for straightforward attachment to waste bins. Additionally, a web application presents this data, enabling managers and staff to monitor trash bin status by time, facilitating more informed decision-making. The system not only saves time by avoiding unnecessary visits to empty bins but also reduces fuel consumption and prevents litter spillage onto streets, thereby promoting urban cleanliness. The objective is to streamline waste management, making it more efficient and environmentally sustainable. This thesis presents three different hardware prototypes, includes investigation reports of battery lifetime and web application with function of sensor data monitoring versus retrieving
